"helping people feel happier"
What Happens During Therapy?
It can sometimes help to think of therapy as a kind of Journey;
travelling away from old unresolved issues and
toward resolution and recovery
toward a self-determined life
unencumbered and free from being held back in some way.
Therapy falls into three parts with several steps in each part, some steps you will take just once and you will have taken them even before you come to see me; others you may take more than once.
Some steps you will take alone, while others will be more directive and will taken during our work together. Either way you will have my full support.
Finally you will take the last steps unaccompanied by me as you once again go forward into your future in a more joyful, purposeful and self determined way.
The therapy I use with you is not a passive process, but is dynamic and you are fully involved with the process so that you can take forward a new awareness about yourself giving you greater freedom of choice in how you respond to life.
Part One - Taking the first brave steps.
Step One -
Your acknowledgement to yourself that something needs to change
Step two -
Your acknowledgement that you need some assistance in the form of a suitably qualified helper
Step Three - by this stage you have already gone a long way towards making the changes happen
Seeking out a suitably qualified helper
Part two - engaging with the process - allowing your helper to help
Step Four -
Sharing with another- being open to sharing all the aspects of yourself with your helper.
This is the stage where we will begin to look at the issues in more depth.
We will work through your conscious and your unconscious mind
by the use of various techniques such as NLP, hypnosis, language, movement,
acupressure, somatic atunement and breathwork as necessary to reveal those
aspects of yourself that you are currently not consciously aware of and to fully
engage with and resolve the issues that lie at the heart of your present difficulty.
Step Five -
Being open to trusting another and being willing to wantonly experiment
- being open to trying something different
By now we know what isn't working for you and the difficulties it causes you and this stage is where we will begin our work in releasing the old and establishing new and more beneficial ways of reacting and responding. Again this is achieved through a variety of means through working with your body, your conscious and unconscious mind; We will also be working with your beliefs and values system and your life outside therapy in order that the changes you have made fit with you comfortably and completely.
Part Three - integrating the changes into your life
Step Six -
Integrating change into your life
The techniques I use are powerful in themselves but without your co-operation and involvement will not in themselves acheive lasting change, for this reason I will ask you to do some homework between sessions to enable you to practice in your own environment the new language and behaviour patterns or to try out various strategies for success that you will have identified and developed through our work together.
This is the stage where the reality of change sinks in, both for you and those around you.
Sometimes this results in others or even our own minds creating obstacles to change so that things can remain the same residing comfortably in the old familiar patterns
this stage is a crucial and valuable one where
you will have my support in continuing with the changes you so want and it is here that we have an opportunity to discover even more effective ways of responding.
Step Seven -
Taking your changes forward
Now we have ensured that the changes you have wanted to make
are fully accepted by your mind and body,
all that remains is for you to take them forward into
a life that you have freely determined for yourself
- a life where you can feel happier.
